The recent increase of the herds, allows to assert that Ouessant's sheep isn't threatened any more at the moment. However, the craze for him, creates an imbalance between the small number of animals to be sold and the big number of buyers ; selection is not rigorous enough. Certainly half of the herd have not the right size! More serious, too many exchanged animals are so different from the standard that they preserve from Ouessant only the name! By reproducing they prevent from the quality of the genetic patrimony of tomorrow.
To escape the confusion which also harms in the credibility of the serious amateurs it would be necessary to take "the sheep" by the horns. I recommend that one separates the wheat from the chaff :
The animals of at least 2 years old would be presented before a jury. Recognized in the standard, an electronic chip would be fixed the same day at the owner's cost.
The fallowing year, at the age of 3, a second presentation, considered as confirmation, would then authorize the registration of the animal in a flock-book. Only the registered animals would be qualified as Ouessant's sheep. Would be published annually a list of the registered animals : with the name of the animal, the number of the electronic chip, the name of the breeder, the name of the owner.
For the young amateurs these tracks constitute rewarding challenges. They are uttered here to arouse a first reflection.

By organizing this qualitative requirement, the current breeders will show respect due to the pioneers who began the rescue of Ouessant's sheep.
